After weeks of total failure, executives at British Petroleum (BP) are celebrating the partial failure of their latest effort to contain the massive leak pumping oil into the Gulf of Mexico. After all earlier attempts failed at a rate of 100%, they are touting that their latest Acme-inspired scheme -- a big straw to suck the spilling oil into a boat -- has managed to contain 20% of the gushing oil. This seems a lot like firefighters bragging if they manage to contain 20% of the fire burning your house down ("good news, we've saved the guest bedroom, too bad about the rest of the house."
