A high school in Rhode Island cancelled a football game because its coaches thought the other team was too big. Not a junior high, am all girls school or a Pop Warner team -- a high school cancelled its games because the oppontents were too big. David did not defeat Goliath because he got scared and went home.

Not a 'worst idea'. Here in our town we have the 'C' rule which prohibits students who don't make the grade by the first marking period from participating in any extracurricular activities, clubs, organizations or athletics. The only problem with the rule is the grades come out halfway through football season. One year all the big linemen failed to make the "C" rule, and their team was facing the strongest team in the league. The honor-roll quarterback was pummeled into the turf lacking all the protection of the linemen. He was never the same. So, given the size and weight differences in high school a forfeit is not so cowardly, but the smart play. Only the sports writers would label it 'chicken.'
